The H.M.S. Bounty
Along with my long-term fascination of tall ships, when I found out The Bounty was less than a two hour drive I was compelled to go see her.
Upon our arrival we were greeted by a very nice young man who was a member of the crew. He was manning the shirt/hat table so he referred us to J. on deck. We found out we could NOT have a guided tour or go below deck as they were busy working down there. But who could really be THAT disappointed? Okay, a little, but no use whining about it.
We met J., a member of the crew. We asked him a bazillion questions from the old way of life aboard such a ship, to their way of life on board today. Today they have T.V., movies, air conditioning in their quarters and normal food. The old way of life was not quite as posh to say the least. We talked about how they use their time for recreation as well as about their work days and yes, movies. We talked about how she sails and parts of the ship and I learned many things about tall ships I never knew before.
We did talk about their venture down in the Caribbean. The Bounty is still in her POTC colors and she is SPLENDID! GORGEOUS! MAGNIFICENT! The crew wants to keep her looking the way she looks now as they like her POTC colors better. I asked J. to NOT tell me any storyline or plot. He said he really couldn't say much because they shot a bunch of scenes and he didn't know where they would be; he stated that some were filmed by helicopter. He also said her name in POTC 2/3 is The Endeavor (n.b. might've been a slip of the tongue..photos show she's the Edinburgh?) Yes, Johnny Depp was on board filming. He said he thinks Captain Jack commandeers the ship at some point.
I took the wheel and stood there a bit thinking that if perhaps Captain Jack commandeered it then he would have stood there too. It brought a surreal sense of closeness knowing that I was standing on the very deck of a ship that Captain Jack/Johnny Depp was also on. I really didn't ask too many Johnny questions (I heard a lot of those during the two hours I was on board) but I finally said, "Okay I really can't help myself, did you meet Johnny Depp?" J. smiled and said "No, I didn't but some of the crew did." I asked what they said about him not wanting to disturb their work, and he said, "They said he is very nice and a really cool guy."
We talked to the the young man at the souveniers table a bit more (he is REALLY ready to set sail me thinks), and bought a shirt and a hat. I decided that I would like to take a three day sail with them some day. Then we left. It was a beautiful day aboard The H.M.S. Bounty.
H.M.S. stands for Her/His Majesty's Ship.
The Bounty was built in 1960 for the film Mutiny on The Bounty. You can read more about her on their website.
She has four cannons and they do fire.
The holding pins on the ropes are about the size of a bowling pin and solid (to give a reference as to what they are like).

More pictures to enjoy!
